A democracy allows freedom of speech, which in turn makes the press free, in which the government interferes with the press less.
The more capital a newspaper has, the more powerful it will be.
The fourth estate, the people, the church, the government and the press. They are the 4 pillars of democracy.
There is a belief in the UK that the press can hold those in power to account and should not fear attack.
